At John F. Kennedy International Airport’s Terminal 8, BKLYN Blend is serving more than smoothies and healthy meals. The Brooklyn-born brand is bringing its mission of nutrition, kindness, and community to one of the world’s busiest international airports.
For founder Keishon Warren, the opening is both a business milestone and a deeply personal moment. As a child, Warren arrived in the United States through JFK with his immigrant parents from Trinidad and Tobago. Today, the brand he built from the ground up has a home in the very airport that welcomed his family years ago.
Built on Family and Community
BKLYN Blend was founded nearly a decade ago with two goals in mind: helping provide financial security for his family and creating greater access to healthy food in underserved communities.
What began as a neighborhood wellness concept has grown into a beloved Brooklyn brand that employs more than 40 people and serves communities across New York City. Throughout its growth, the company has remained committed to its core mission of providing nutritious food while creating welcoming spaces where people can connect and feel valued.
“We specialize in going into communities that are underserved or considered food deserts,” Warren said. “Not only do we provide access to nutrition, but we also provide a space for the community to come in and be human to each other.”
A Full-Circle Moment at JFK
The journey to Terminal 8 came through participation in the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey’s Institute of Concessions, a program designed to help small and minority-owned businesses explore opportunities within the airport industry.
Warren was part of the program’s first graduating cohort and credits it with helping him realize that airport concessions were not reserved for large national brands.
“The program helped me understand that we deserved to be here,” Warren said. “It showed us that small businesses can compete alongside the big brands and succeed in this environment.”
That realization became reality when BKLYN Blend was selected to join Terminal 8’s growing concessions program. For Warren, seeing the location for the first time was an emotional experience.
“I walked into the space and just broke down,” he recalled. “We started this brand 11 years ago and never imagined it would be in an airport. It was surreal. Everything aligned in a way that reminded me that we do deserve to be here.”
Bringing Brooklyn to a Global Audience
At Terminal 8, travelers will find the same BKLYN Blend experience that has earned loyal customers throughout the city. Menu items celebrate the founder’s roots and neighborhood influences, from smoothies named after Brooklyn bus routes to wholesome meals inspired by Caribbean flavors and family traditions.
Every detail reflects the brand’s identity and commitment to intentionality.
“Everything is intentional,” Warren said. “We want to represent Brooklyn wherever we are, whether that's in Queens, across the country, or internationally. BKLYN Blend is a reflection of my culture, my upbringing, and the community that helped build us.”
As passengers travel through Terminal 8, BKLYN Blend offers an authentic taste of New York while showcasing the entrepreneurial spirit that exists within the city’s neighborhoods.
Creating Opportunity Through Partnership
The arrival of BKLYN Blend reflects ASUR Airports’ ongoing commitment to creating opportunities for local and diverse businesses while delivering authentic New York experiences to travelers.
“BKLYN Blend represents exactly the kind of local success story we are proud to support at Terminal 8,” said Ian Carter, Vice President of Operations, ASUR Airports, JFK. “Keishon's journey demonstrates how partnerships, mentorship, and opportunity can help community-based businesses grow onto an international stage. We're excited for travelers from around the world to experience a brand that is so deeply connected to Brooklyn and New York City.”
Through collaboration among ASUR Airports, American Airlines, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, and concession partners, Terminal 8 continues to create pathways for small businesses to thrive in the airport environment.
For Warren, the opportunity comes with both gratitude and responsibility.
“Success is the only option,” he said. “There are so many people watching our journey and being inspired by it. We have to stay true to our mission and continue serving our community. That's what got us here, and that's what will carry us forward.”
BKLYN Blend operates the T8 outpost, an airport first, and two locations in Brooklyn.
